Casey Affleck is an American actor and director with a current net worth of $10 million. He was born in Falmouth, Massachusetts, on August 12th, 1975. His elder brother, Ben is also an actor and filmmaker.
He is the second son of Christopher Anne “Chris” Boldt, a district school employee and teacher, and Timothy Byers Affleck, a social worker, concierge, mechanic, waiter and former actor of the Boston Theater Company. Affleck has Irish, Scottish, German and English ancestry. He is three years younger than his brother Ben Affleck.
Early childhood.
He was raised in an Episcopal family. As a child he had several pets, such as cats, snakes, rodents and turtles.
University.
He attended George Washington University, and then Columbia University in New York, where he studied physics, astronomy, and Western philosophy but did not graduate. He worked sporadically on television while finishing high school and attending college in the early 1990s.
Acting career.
Affleck’s first film role was playing a sociopath in the black comedy film “2 die 4” by Gus Van Sant, with Joaquin Phoenix and Nicole Kidman. After working with Halle Berry in Race the Sun (1996), he appeared in two films along with his brother Ben: Chasing to Amy and Good Will Hunting. The latter film was co-written by Ben and his friend Matt Damon, who would win the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.
His career continued with roles in films such as Desert Blue (1998) with Kate Hudson, the black comedy Drowning Mona (1999) with Danny DeVito, and the horror film Soul Survivors (2001) with Eliza Dushku.
In 2001, Casey Affleck was part of the choral cast in the remake of the Rat Pack titled Ocean’s Eleven, directed by Steven Soderbergh. Accompanying the leading stars, George Clooney and Brad Pitt, Affleck plays Virgil Malloy, one of the Mormon brothers hired to drive the escape vehicle.
He repeated the role in the two sequels, Ocean’s Twelve (2004) and Ocean’s Thirteen (2007). In the third part of the trilogy, several scenes are set in Mexico, where Affleck lived as a child, and where his character has dialogues in Spanish, language that speaks fluently.
Success as an actor.
In 2007, Affleck starred in the western murder of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford, playing Robert Ford with Brad Pitt (Jesse James). For his unanimously praised performance, he received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor, one for the Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Supporting Actor and an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
In 2007, he also interpreted his first role as protagonist in a great production. He starred in the Boston thriller Gone Baby Gone, playing the role of Patrick Kenzie. Directed, produced and co-written by Ben Affleck, the film was praised by critics and Casey got approval for his performance.
Private life.
Casey Affleck married Summer Phoenix, after six years of dating, on June 3rd, 2006 in Savannah, Georgia. The couple met by her brother, Joaquin Phoenix. They have two children: Indiana August, who was born on May 31, 2004 in Amsterdam, and Atticus who was born in January 2008. They divorced in 2016.
