Joanne Katherine Rowling is a British novelist known for the Harry Potter series. Rowling was born on July 31, 1965 in Yate, England. She is currently married to Neil Murray, he is his second husband with whom she has two children, David Gordon Rowling Murray and Mackenzie Jean. From her previous marriage, she has another daughter, Jessica Isabel Rowling Arantes.
Like we have said previously, she is famous for her Harry Potter Series of children’s fantasy novels. The idea for this books came to her at first in 1990 while the train she was riding from Manchester to London was delayed for many hours.
1990’s
Rowling was a poor, single mother living in Edinburgh as she wrote the first book, unemployed and subsisting off of welfare. The writer was diagnosed with a clinical depression, nevertheless she finished her manuscript in 1995. But the next step was more complicated that she even imagined. The first twelve publishing houses she submitted to rejected the work, but in 1996, publishing house Bloomsbury Editor Barry Cunningham agreed to publish her work upon the recommendation of his daughter of 8 years old Alice Newton.
J.K Rowling received an advance of £1500 and told to find a day job. A year later, the Scottish Arts gave her a grant of £8000 to continue writing the story. After a small initial print run, the first book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone won several awards, including the British Book Award for Children’s Book of the year.
An auction for the US publishing right netted $105.000 from Scholastic, Inc. The whole series went on to break sales record on the world. Since then J.K Rowling has written two adult books, The Casual Vacancy and The Cuckoo’s Calling, the last mention under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith.
After earning $17 million in 2012, Rowling’s earnings in 2013 have been $13 million, not including the substantial damages from Russell the media company who is responsible for the leak of her pseudonym. With a Net Worth of approximately $1 billion, she is the wealthiest professional author of the world.
Next projects
J.K Rowling is working as a producer and writing the script for the new series of movies based in the world of Harry Potter, calls Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, this will be a series of at least 5 movies.
Besides that she has a project calls Pottermore that is a web where people go to know more of the different histories of Harry Potter’s world. And she has announced two new books that will be inspired in different stories that appear in the Harry Potter series, the new titles will be Harry Potter: A History of Magic, The Book of the Exhibition.
