Sofia Coppola is an American actress, film director, screenwriter, costume designer, and producer with an estimated net worth of $30 million.

She was born on May 14th, 1971 in New York (United States). Sofia Coppola is the daughter of director Francis Ford Coppola and Eleanor Coppola. Her grandfather is the composer Carmine Coppola, her cousin is the actor Nicolas Cage, and her aunt is the actress Talia Shire. She has three brothers named Mary, Gian-Carlo and Roman.

Her debut in cinema.

She was born in Manhattan. As a child she was immersed in the film industry, appearing in a movie for the first time as a baby in “The Godfather” (1972), title directed by her father. Years later, sometimes credited as Domino, he appeared in other Francis Ford Coppola films such as “The Godfather II” (1974), “Rumble Fish” (1983), “Cotton Club” (1984) or “Peggy Sue Got Married” 1986).

She was also part of the distribution of the short film directed by Tim Burton “Frankenweenie” (1984).

Her first script.

In 1989 he wrote his first script collaborating with his father in the text of an episode of the movie “Stories of New York”. Her first experience behind the camera was with the short Lick the star (1998). Subsequently, her worldwide recognition would come with The Virgins Suicide (1999) and later, Lost in Translation (2003). For this last film, she won the Oscar for the best original screenplay (in addition to obtaining three other nominations, including the best film) and three Golden Globes awards, among them the best film in the comedy or musical category.

With her Oscar nomination in the Best Director category, she became the third woman to be nominated in this category and the first American.

In 2006 she released her film Marie Antoinette (2006), adaptation of the French Queen’s biography written by the British historian Antonia Fraser. Actress Kirsten Dunst portrays the role of the queen, and actor Jason Schwartzman (cousin of the director) plays the role of Louis XVI.

Personal life.

She was married to director Spike Jonze between June 26, 1999 and December 5, 2003, when they filed a separation suit alleging “irreconcilable differences.” In 2011, she married the French Band Phoenix, Thomas Mars, with whom she has two daughters, Romy, named after Sofia’s brother Roman and another, Cosima.
