Kenny Rogers is a versatile songwriter, singer, and actor who has a net worth of $250 million. Kenneth Ray Rogers was born on August 21st, 1938 in Houston, Texas (USA). He is the fourth of seven children conceived by Edward Floyd Rogers, a carpenter, and his wife Lucille, nurse. Rogers graduated from Jefferson Davis High School in Houston. According to his birth certificate, his middle name is Ray and sometimes appears in credits as “Kenneth Ray Rogers”.

Studies.

In his adolescence, he was part of a band called The Scholars that released three singles. After his graduation, he released two singles, “We’ll Always Fall in Love Again” and “For You Alone.”

In 1959, he attended the University of Texas, but, he soon left to play the bass in jazz group Bobby Doyle Three. He also played bass on “Is It Wrong”, the 1960’s single by Mickey Gilley. Bobby Doyle Three released an album, In A Most Unusual Way, before he left the group to play with the Kirby Stone Four.

His beginnings as solo.

He got a recording contract as a soloist with Mercury. In 1966, he joined the New Christy Minstrels and then formed First Edition. They signed with Reprise and recorded the single pop-psychedelic “Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In).” This single was a hit in early 1968, reaching number five.

The next year, it was announced as Kenny Rogers and the First Edition. Then in 1969, they launched their second and final Top 10 hit called  “Ruby, Do not Take Your Love to Town.” At the end of 1972, the band had its own television program. He left the group in 1974 and the band split the following year.

Becoming a star.

He signed with United Artists in 1975. “Love Lifted Me” was his debut for the label, and with “Lucille” he had a great success. In 1977 the subject reached the position number one. In the following years, he had a number of Top 10 hits in country and pop rankings. Between 1978 and 1980, he had five simple country songs that reached number one consecutively – “Love or Something Like It,” “The Gambler,” “She Believes in Me,” “You Decorated My Life,” and “Coward of the County “.

In addition to his solo hits, Rogers had several top 10 duet hits with Dottie West, including “Everytime Two Fools Collide,” “All I Ever Need Is You” and “What Are We Doin’ ‘In Love.”

In 1983, he signed with RCA Records, releasing a duet with Dolly Parton called “Islands in the Stream”. In 1988, he returned to Reprise, where he had a major success with “The Vows Go Unbroken (Always True To You)”, from the album Something Inside So Strong, 1989.

Personal Life.

He married Wanda Miller on June 1, 1997 and they had 2 children. He was previously married to Marianne Gordon (1 October 1977 to 1993), with her, he had 1 child; With Margo Anderson (October 1964 – 1976), another son; Jean Rogers (October 1960 – 1963), and Janice Gordon (May 15, 1958 – April 1, 1960), with whom he also fathered another son.
