Cherilyn Sarkisian La Pierre was born on May 20th, 1946 in El Centro, California. Her father was an American with Armenian background who was addicted to drugs and gambling, and Jackie Jean Crouch, occasional actress and model with Irish background, English, German, French, Dutch and Cherokee.
Her parents divorced when she was 10 months old, and they married and divorce again twice more. After their first divorce her mother married another man. Her third marriage was with the actor John Southall; he is the father of her step-sister Georganne.
Problematic early life.
She was expelled from secondary school at the age of 16, and she left her home to go to Los Angeles. She started as session singer with the purpose of financing an actor’s career.
Her beginnings in music.
She recorded with the producer Phil Spector as a supporting vocalist, and she started a relationship with Sonny Bono, a studio assistant, who she recorded two singles under the nicknames of Caesar & Cleo. This duo gained international fame in the 60s as Sonny & Cher. They got many hits, including a Byrds’ version of “All I really Want to Do”, apart from other songs such as, Bang Bang and I feel Something in the Air

Her first movie was a musical pop by William Friedkin “Good Times” (1967), a film starred by the couple. Two years later, she starred the road film “Chastity” (1969), a movie directed by Alessio Di Paula that counted with Sonny Bono’s script, production, and music.
T.V show and Marriages.
During the beginning of the 70s, the couple alternated pop music with hosting their own T.V show. During that period, Cher also hosted her own show called “Cher Show” on CBS.
Sonny and Cher divorced in 1975. They had a daughter called Chastity, who in 2009 made a sex reassignment surgery. He is a transgender whose current name is Chaz Bono.
In 1975, Cher married Greg Allman from The Allman Brothers whom she had a son called Elijah in 1976. They divorced in 1979.

Prizes.
