Floyd Mayweather Jr. is actually Floy Joey Sinclair. He is the son of the former boxer Floyd Mayweather and nephew of the former world boxing champion Roger “Black Mamba” Mayweather. He was born in Grand Rapids, Mi. on February 24th, 1977.
Floyd learnt everything he knows from boxing thanks to his father and uncle who taught him as tutors. He has been World Champion from five different categories, super feather, light, super light, welter, and super welter.
He got the semifinals on the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996, and he got the Golden Glove Championship in 1993, 1994, and 1996. He made his professional debut when he beat by Knockout Roberto Apodaca in only two rounds, on October 11, 1996. Two years later, he already established his own record 17-0-0, and 13 KO.
First World Championship
In 1998, he wanted to get his first world super featherweight championship, and fought against the then champion, Genaro Hernández. From the beginning, Floyd dominated his opponent, and before the 8th round, the Hernández’s corner stopped the fight, which turned Mayweather in the new Champion of the World.
After that, the new World Champion wanted to enter to the Lightweight category and he faced José Luis Castillo, the category champion. After 12 rounds where both gave their best, the judges decided to announced that Mayweather was the new champion.
To obtain the Super lightweight girdle, Floyd had to have a match with DeMarcus Corley, who he overthrew, and made him once again into the World Champion of this new category. Then, he fought against Henry Bruseles, who was knockout by Mayweather in eight rounds.
In 2006, he was going for another world championship. This time his target was the welter weight category, and he decided to have a match against Zab Judah, who was the winner that year. The match turned very aggressive, that even his uncle Roger Mayweather crashed the ring, who was suspended and forced to pay a fine for his behavior. Floyd won the fight, and once again he was crowned in a new category.
Oscar De La Hoya and Manny Pacquiao
The most expected match was against Óscar De La Hoya. He was looking for the Super welter girdle; whose owner was De La Hoya.
This was one of the most commented battles due to it was the highest payment in the history of sports in years. Mayweather got $25 million, while De la Hoya got $52 million. As it was expected, Floyd won the match, but days later he announced he decided to retire from boxing because he thought he did not have enough motivation for boxing.
2009 come back
But on July 18th, 2009, he announced he decided to come to the ring to face Juan Manuel Márquez. One of the best Mexican boxers, who of course, he beat in a very hard battle. His net worth is $340 million. And he is currently the best paid Sports celebrity in the world.
