This German fashion designer, based in Paris has a total net worth of $125 million. Karl Otto Lagerfeld was born in Hamburg (Germany) on September 10th, 1933. He is widely recognized as one of the most influential fashion designers of the second half of the twentieth century. He owes much of his popularity to his work for the firm Chanel, to his activity as a photographer and to his striking public appearances that usually are surrounded by celebrities and top models.

Wealthy origins.

His father, Christian Lagerfeld belonged to a family from Sweden whose business was banking, and who moved to Germany to introduce mil powered in that country. While his mother, Elisabeth Bahlmann was a member of nobility in Germany. The couple only had Karl during the time they were married. He was born ten years after their wedding. His mother was 42, while his father was 60 years old. both parents had already children by themselves. in previous relationships with other couples.

Beginning of his career.

Karl Lagerfeld emigrated to Paris in 1953. In 1955, when he was 22 years old, Lagerfeld was awarded by a position at the Pierre Balmain fashion house after winning a contest sponsored by the International Secretariat of Lana. It was not the first time he had participated; Years earlier, he was defeated by Yves Saint Laurent.

Serving multiple signatures.

Karl Lagerfeld made good reputation as an independent designer. He collaborated with several different fashion firms, among they are included Chloé, Fendi, and Channel. Apart from that, during the 80s, he founded his own company called Lagerfeld that launched perfumes and other clothing garments.  Lagerfeld is known for his taste and elitist customs, with an eccentricity sometimes snob, that does not hesitate to mix with winks to the consumption culture, and popular stars. In the early 1990s he chose nudists and an Italian erotic movie star (Moana Pozzi) to walk with his Black and White collection for the Fendi firm.

He has produced legendary pieces such as a swimsuit with bubbling water sprouting in the front, a dress imitating a car with a radiator grille and bumper, and an endless number of eccentric hats.

Collaborations and projects.

In 2004 he designed some outfits for Madonna’s international tour, “Re-Invention Tour” and recently designed some for Kylie Minogue’s “Showgirl” tour. Recently, Lagerfeld collaborated with Swedish fashion firm H & M. On November 12, 2004, H & M offered a limited number of different garments in select malls for women and men. Only two days after the malls had been stocked, H & M had announced that all its clothing had been sold out. Lagerfeld has said he is not afraid that working with more popular signatures will tarnish his image.

Working as a photographer

He is also a photographer and produced “Visionaire 23: The Emperor’s New Clothes”, a series of nude photographs of the South African model David Miller. In 1996 he received the Culture Prize of the German Photography Association.
