Gennady Golovkin Gennadievich, is a professional boxer born on April 8 of 1982 in Kazakhstan. He is the son of Russian father and Korean mother; he fights in the middleweight category. He has the highest percentage of KO in boxing history. Encouraged by his brothers to be devoted to boxing. Desafortunely, later in life he will lose these two significant persons in his life, who had joined the army and both died in combat, although in different dates.
Golovkin, take these events as motivation to keep fighting. In 2002, Golovkin receives a scholarship to the Olympic Solidarity, a boxing program. In 2003 in Bangkok he wins the gold medal at the World Amateur Boxing Championships. Became Olympic medalist of the 2004 Olympics in Athens in the 75kg category.
He holds the title of World Champion in the WBA, IBF, IBO and WBC in the middleweight category. In 2013 he was listed by Ring magazine as the 3rd best fighter in the world and titled the fighter of the year.
His professional career began in Germany when he signed a contract with Universum; a promoter of boxing. At that time, he won his first 19 fights, 16 of them by KO. In 2010 Golovkin decides to end the contract with the company do the fact that they rather promote other athletes as Sturm and Zbik, subtracting him the importance and support needed to further advance in his career.
It is eagerly awaited his fight against Canelo Alvarez, who agreed to fight him after his victory against Miguel Cotto by unanimous decision. Currently, Golovkin lives in Germany with his wife and son. He works with his twin brother who is his assistant in the fights.
