She was only 16 months old when her family, for political reasons, left the island staying in Miami since her father at that time was Fulgencio Batista’s wife bodyguard. Batista was Cuban dictator before the revolution. He was in jail for a long time. Career.
After studied psychology at the university, she joined a group that played Latin music, where she began to sing. Gloria began her solo career with her first album Cuts Both Ways. The album had a commercial success, managing to sell more than 15 million copies worldwide. The first single, Don’t Want to Lose You, gained popularity reaching the position n °. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for 2 weeks. Other singles like “Cuts Both Ways”, “Get on Your Feet” and “Oye mi Canto” topped Billboard Adult Contemporary.
Also in 1989, she began the Get On Your Feet World Tour visiting Canada, Japan and the United Kingdom. It was also planned to include the United States and Australia on the tour, but in 1990 in Pennsylvania, she had an accident when a tractor crashed into the bus she was traveling on.
