Depending on who you ask, Guns N’ Roses vocalist Axl Rose is considered a rock music icon that’s worshipped by millions of people, almost like the figure of Christ himself, or hated as a homophobic, misogynistic and woefully rock star. As well thought of a tyrant for his own ex bandmates.
William Bruce Rose was born on February 6 of 1962 in Lafayette. Suffered of sexual abuse by his biological father and eventually physical abuse from his stepfather at an early age (Rose changed his name to William Bailey when his mother got married again). Rose was an outcast on school, where he were bullied for his classmates just for being different, but he found solace on singing with the school at church vocal choir and eventually the rock music. His rough teenage years were calmed a bit when he befriended a Keith Richards-worshipping chap under the name of Jess Isbell, who shared Rose’s interest in music. He left Indiana to be on the street of Los Angeles in the early 80’s with the hope of making a rock band, and Rose followed shortly after changing his name to W. Axl Rose.
But with the fame also came death-defying drug and alcohol abuse among all the five members. It appeared as though the more successful they were, the more problems were around them. To fill the blank space for a new GNR album, Geffen put out the album GNR Lies, with the rumors of an impending band breakup. The album had a huge success on the streets, but Axl Rose got under immense fire and criticism for the song one in a million, which Rose had derogatory comments to gay, black and immigrant people.
GNR found themselves losing their validity as a streetwise rock band in the face of huge grunge movement, which included such bands as Nirvana, Pearl jam, Soundgarden, etc.
To the date Axl Rose is one the richest singers of rock of all the times.
