The great director George Lucas was born on May 14 of 1944, in Modesto, California. He grew up on the suburbs, and that inspired his film American graffiti of 1973. Lucas studied cinematography on the Southern Carolina University and caught the eye of Francis Ford Coppola, Who helped him enter on the film business. Following the advice of his friend, he transferred to the University of Southern Carolina filmmaking school. Where he produced a small futuristic sci-fi film called “The Electronic-Labyrinth” and reached comfortable place below the wing of Francis Coppola, Who took a lot of interest on unleashing new filmmaking talent. Francis convinced WB to make a featured length version of the film, even knowing that the critics recognized that it had a Deep message behind all the technical wizardy, THX 1138 (Re-titled) flopped really bad on its 1971 release.
Altough intimidated for the failure of his first movie, George Lucas went back to work on his upcoming project, ‘American graffiti’ released in 1973, The film featured plenty of young talents, as Ron Howard, Richard Dreyfuss and The great Harrison Ford. He was recognized as the stunning portrait of listless American youth on 1962 depicting, In Lucas’s own words, “A warm, secure, uninvolved life”. Just $780,000 were needed to make the movie and it grossed over than $100 million.
Now that George Lucas recovered the confidence of his supporters, He started out a children’s Saturday morning serial that would become into a fairy tale, the project eventually improved into a full-length movie called ‘Star Wars’. Released on May of 1977, the movie blew audiences away with its inspiring special effects, Out-of-this-world landscapes and captivating characters. The movie was made with $11 million and made over $513 million worldwide on its original release.
