He was born on August 28, 1962 in Denver, Colorado. Son of Claire Mae Boettcher, a nurse, and Howard Kelly Fincher, a writer who worked as a reporter and died of cancer in April 2003. When he was two years old, the family moved to San Anselmo, California, where filmmaker George Lucas was one of its neighbors.
Married to the model and photographer Donya Fiorentino in 1990; they divorced in 1995. They had a daughter. Fiorentino married actor Gary Oldman; Fincher was related to the producer Ceán Chaffin, who produced all his films since 1997.
Career
At age 18, he is hired by George Lucas, ILM: Industrial Light and Magic. His name appears in special effects credits for films such as “The Return of the Jedi” and “Indiana Jones.”
When in 1991 the filming of Alien 3 was announced, nobody had heard of the person in charge of directing the film, in fact the tape did not serve him to make a hollow in the industry. Then he performs “Seven” one of the best thrillers ever seen.

He directed the adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s novel Gone Girl, which premiered on October 3, 2014. He also committed to HBO in directing and adapting the first season of the British series Utopia. This is his second television project after House of Cards, for Netflix, which starred actor Kevin Spacey.
In 2011 he received the Golden Globe Award for Best Director.
