Alfredo James “Al” Pacino is an American actor with Italian roots who has an estimated net worth of $145 million. He was born on April 25th, 1940 in East Harlem, New York (USA). Born in a Catholic family of Sicilian ancestry, is the son of Salvatore Pacino, a former insurance agent, and Rose Pacino, a woman who died in 1962, a decade before her son became a movie star. Salvatore and Rose had divorced in 1942, when their son was only two years old.

Pacino was born in the East Harlem, New York, and grew up in the Bronx neighborhood from the same city in the care of his mother and maternal grandparents.

Beginnings in acting.

As a teenager, Al enrolled in the New York School of Interpreting High School for Performing Arts. He soon left the classroom to appear in various theatrical productions and work as a movie theater usher. Soon after, he studied acting at Lee Strasberg’s celebrated Actors Studio.

He debuted on Broadway in 1969 representing the play Does the Tiger Wear a Necktie?. Thanks to his performance, he managed to win the Tony Award. Also in 1969 he began his career in the big screen by taking part in Me, Natalie, a film directed by Fred Coe.

Stardom.

His launch to stardom came after his appearance as Michael Corleone in The Godfather (1972), his third film as a film interpreter. The great Al Pacino career as an actor, combining the cinema with the theater, has provided him with critical praises and diverse awards, obtaining the Oscar for the best main actor by Scent of Woman (1992). Previously he had been nominated for an Oscar for Best Lead Actor for Serpico (1973), The Godfather 2 (1974), Dog Day Afternoon(1975) and Justice for All (1979), And “Best Supporting Actor” for “The Godfather” (1972), Glengarry Glen Ross (1992) and “Dick Tracy” (1990).

Career as director.

Apart from his role as an interpreter, Pacino has also made his films as a director, starting as a director of feature films in 1996 with “Looking for Richard”. He later filmed Chinese Coffee (2000). These cinematographic works of theater ancestry show the passion for the scene of the author.

Other films that are part of his filmography are Insomnia (2002) by Christopher Nolan, The Merchant of Venice (2004), adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play, and directed by Michael Radford, Two for the Money (2005) by D. J. Caruso, Ocean’s Thirteen (2007), where he shared credits with George Clooney and Brad Pitt.

Personal life.

Although Pacino has never been married, he has two children, Anton James and Olivia Rose (born in 2001), with actress Beverly D’Angelo, with whom he had a relationship between 1996 and 2003; And a daughter, Julie Marie (born 1989), with acting teacher Jan Tarrant. Pacino maintained an intermittent relation with the popular actress Diane Keaton, his companion in the cast of the trilogy on The Godfather; The relationship ended after filming of The Godfather II.
