His beginnings
Since he was a young boy his passion was theater and movies. Ewan started his career on Fine Arts, but he soon abandoned his studies to join Perth Repertory Theatre. he later studied performance at Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, and at Morrison’s Academy in Crieff.
Just before finishing his academic training, a main role was offered to him on the T.V series Lipstick on your Collar by Dennis Potter. In 1993, he got his first part in movies on the Film Being Human, where he worked with Robin Williams, and received good critics. McGregor won an Empire Award for his performance in Shallow Grave, from the director Danny Boyle who also directed him in 1996 on the film Trainspotting, a film that launched worldwide.

In 1996, he worked in Emma, along with Gwyneth Paltrow, Toni Collette, and Jeremy Northam. The film is based on Jane Austen’s novel. In 1999 he performed Obi-Wan Kenobi on Star Wars film The Phantom Menace, Episode I, as well as Episode II Attack of the Clones, and Episode III Revenge of the Sith. The George Lucas’ trilogy.
He sang in Moulin Rouge (2001), musical film he starred with Nicole Kidman, and he was nominated for the Golden Globe Award as a best actor in a comedy/musical motion picture. In 2003, he performed on three films, Down with Love with Renee Zellweger, Big Fish, and Young Adam.

In 2001, he was awarded with the SIFF Golden Space Needle Award on the International Film Festival in Seattle, Washington. In 2012, he was a member of the main jury on the Cannes Film Festival. He was awarded with a Donostia prize during the 60th edition of Saint Sebastian Film Festival. A recognition for all his career, becoming the youngest actor to receive the prize.
In 2015, he performed on the film Mortdecai, sharing credits with Johnny Depp, and on April 21st of that year, it was announced that he was going to be one of the actors of The Beauty and the Beast, directed by Bill Condon. The filming started in May 2015, on Shepperton Studios in London, and the premier will be in March 2017.
