Charlize Theron is a South African actress born in Benoni, on August 7, 1975. She is the only child of a marriage formed by a French farmer named Charles, and a German lady whose name is Gerda. Her father died in 1990, killed by his own wife when he was attempting to attack her. They jury acquitted her by pleading self-defense.
Since she was a little girl, Charlize studied classical ballet in the city of Johannesburg, but her career was truncated after suffering an injury to her knee. She worked during adolescence as a model, getting some popularity in 1996 after becoming the face of a famous TV spot for a martini beverage.
During the 90s, Charlize moved to Los Angeles, where she made her debut in a Hollywood film by John Herzfeld called Two Days in the Valley (1996). This film starred Danny Aiello, James Spader and Jeff Daniels.
During her first years as a performer, Theron shot a brief supporting role in The Wonders (1996), a film directed by Tom Hanks, and increasing her value as an actress in more important characters, such as in the comedy film Trial and Error (1997), in the thriller Devil’s Advocate (1997) directed by Taylor Hackford, in which she had the opportunity to share main roles with Keanu Reeves and Al Pacino. Mighty Joe Young (1998), an adventure film directed by Ron Underwood, as well as in The Astronaut’s Wife (1999), a science-fiction film directed by Rand Ravich and which starred Johnny Depp.
In 2003, she starred the film Monster which gave her the Golden Globe Award for best actress in a drama, as well as an Oscar for best actress that year.
She currently has a net worth of $120 million and she has continued filming, giving support to many charities, and she has adopted two kids, Jackson and August.
