Just see it to realize that she knows how to pose for a camera. She did it to Avedon, Penn and Horst. And now it does for the firm Airfield.

Diva is a word that is use to describe her often. But Dell’Orefice doesn’t feel identified with it. Despite her age, she preserves the beauty and posture, the work of years of ballet.

Her arthritis is not an impediment to keep out modeling, something that has no problem to talk about.

Dell’Orefice does not like being expected, Punctuality is something that can be seen in this model and Discipline is another of her virtues. Again, something she must thank to the ballet. It notes that in 1944 Diana Vreeland said to her that she had the neck one and a half centimeter too short. And she dutifully did grow up with daily exercises. How stills remains a mystery. But she says that continues this practice every day.

Her father was an Italian violinist and her mother, a Hungarian dancer. He left them at young age and they live a difficult time, especially In the New York of the 30s, they not exactly were swimming in abundance. At age 12 she fell ill with rheumatic fever and had to quit the ballet. At 13, an agent discovered her in a bus on the way to work and introduce her to the glamorous world of fashion. At 15 she had her first cover for an important firm. At 19, she met her first husband. Next came two more, one of them was the photographer Richard Heimann and various professional and financial comings and goings including Bernie Madoff fraud that left her bankrupt.

Several pages of Modeling, place Dell’Orefice in the top ranking of legends of fashion. She does not know the existence of the web. Neither considers itself as an example to follow. That is the reason why, she thinks about how people react when they see an older woman in a magazines and covers. To all of them is something totally out of range and incredible, says the model.

It is not the first veteran who disagree with the new generation of models, argues that the marketing and Fashion has become tasteless. It is monotonous and boring. Retirement does not fit into her plans. She says work gives me life. The real challenge is to make it look that I love what I do and project an image without losing dignity.
